The Consortium, which was founded in 2007 by a group of far-sighted winemakers, obtained in 2015 the regulatory recognition by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies (Ministerial Decree n. 45784 of 24.06.2015), with the exclusive conferral of the erga omnes obligations and the task of promoting, enhancing and handling the interests connected with the Vesuvio DOP and Pompeiano IGP denominations.

" Si narra che un pezzo di Paradiso precipitò nel Golfo di Napoli quando Lucifero fu scacciato. Cristo, addolorato per la perdita di colui che era stato l’angelo più buono, pianse. Là dove caddero le sue lacrime, nacquero delle viti il cui vino si chiamò per questo Lacryma Christi. "

The vine with its 391 hectares characterises the landscapes of all the municipalities that form the System, and is mainly cultivated in companies whose business centre falls within the municipalities of Terzigno (86.6 hectares of vines), Boscotrecase (82.4 hectares of vines) and Trecase (67.1 hectares of vines). Just over half (52%) of the vineyard area is declared with a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) for the production of Vesuvio DOC and Lacryma Christi DOC wines.
